If you’ve heard of Ayurveda, or been curious about it, or even if this is the first ever time you’re reading the word AYURVEDA (Ah-yoor-vay-dah) well, this might be a great place to start.

I’m here to share what I know, what sparks me up, to give you a glimpse of what might be available to you through Ayurveda. But a bit of background first?

Here’s what the books say: Ayurveda is an ancient system of health from India, more than 5000 years of written history & even older than that in obscure practice. It’s origins are mythology — gods who grant boons, mystics and enlightened beings, meditation and ways of uncovering the world through insight. But that’s another topic. Suffice to say it’s old, comes from India and teaches similar philosophy as yoga.

Now, don’t let the legendary origins twist your panties. Ayurveda is as relevant today, as applicable today, and as powerful today as it has ever been. Because it is a way of life, a way of being in harmony with yourself and your world around you. It is as natural as breathing. As plain as air. As versatile as water.

Here’s a 60 sec video I made to give you a quick intro.

So, the basics:

AYUR = Life
VEDA = Wisdom

Bringing us to the conclusion that the word means Wisdom (or knowledge) of Life. A frightfully high and mighty declaration, don’t you think? “THE KNOWLEDGE OF LIFE,” who says that?

But you know what, it’s true. Hear me out.

The basic goals of life — health, peace, balance — are all achievable through Ayurveda. How? Well, no differently than what you’re already doing — eating, sleeping, moving that bootay, breathing, consuming all kinds of things through your senses, probably thinking a lot.

Ayurveda is about doing all those things but in a way that suits you. For your UNIQUE mind-body type. For your tendencies, your strengths, your potential struggles.

Sadly, its all those things that get us into a bad place with our health. Our emotions. Our relationships. Because no one taught us to eat right. Breathe correctly. Use our senses properly. Detox our minds and emotions regularly.

But it’s we need to know the right way to be healthful. And it’s simple. It starts with knowing yourself. Yes, us humans, we’re mostly made of the same stuff. A bag of juice with some bones holding us up. But we’re each so darn different!

You know that already. You’re different from your siblings, your parents, your spouses and even your kids (if you have em.)

Like Samatha can eat hot chilis like like candy. But one bite, and your ears are on fire and maybe your pants too.

Or like Sheena can hang in the hot sun all day & be cool as a cucumber. And you feel like you got hit in the face by a train after 10 minutes in the sun.

Or like Joey can sleep like a log. A wolf howling in his bed wont wake him, but you wake up when the neighbor upstairs takes a shower at midnight.

You get the point. We’re all unique, in how our bodies react to food, environment, weather, and even how we handle when the our favourite team loses the world series.

Ok, here’s another video I made to show you one of the coolest things that makes Ayurveda unique — the concept of constitution.

Hopefully that gives you a bit of background. Now, read the next post to begin to identify your constitution and take our free quiz.
